Esperia Ponies turn stones

Esperia Ponies drehen Steine

Several Esperia Ponies have been observed turning stones to reach the grass underneath. When stones are turned frequently, the grass underneath the stones has improved growing conditions because water condenses on the stones. The behaviour can be seen every day. It is unknown which horse started the behaviour.  The Esperia Ponies are managed semi-wild on pasture at a mountain range in the Italian Abruzzi mountains. They are provided with water in summer and with hay in harsh winters.
